Walk into every session knowing exactly what your student keeps doing wrong

Most coaches spend the opening part of a session doing manual game review to figure out what to work on. BlackboxChess automates that part. You get a ranked mistake profile for any student before the session starts, built from Stockfish analysis of their recent games. The diagnosis is done before you sit down together.

What you get before each session

BlackboxChess runs Stockfish across your student's last 10 to 100 games and classifies their mistakes by type. The output is a ranked profile: which patterns are costing them the most, how frequently each one appears, and three real game examples per category with move-by-move context.

The system tracks dozens of mistake types across categories including material loss, king safety, piece activity, pawn structure, and endgame technique. Each one is scored by actual impact, not just frequency.

How it changes session prep

Instead of reviewing five games the night before and forming a rough impression, you run an analysis and get an engine-verified ranked list. Instead of telling a student "watch your tactics," you can say "you have a back rank problem in roughly one in four games and it's your top rated weakness by impact." The data backs the conversation.

Students respond differently to a diagnosis that comes with specific game examples versus general coaching observations. The examples are right there in the report: real positions from their actual games.

Who this is for

Coaches working with club-level and intermediate players, roughly 800 to 2000 Elo. Players in that range have enough games to show real patterns and enough recurring mistakes to work on. The analysis is most useful for students who have played at least 30 to 50 recent online games on Lichess or Chess.com.

Works for 1-on-1 coaching and group settings. Each student gets a profile based on their own game history.

What the coaching tier includes

The individual report is live now and works for any player. The coaching-specific tools are in development: multi-student dashboards, session prep summaries, and white-label reporting for coaches who want to send reports to students under their own branding.

Pricing for the coaching tier is negotiated based on student volume. If you want to try the current analysis on a student's games in the meantime, it's available now starting free. Get in touch via the contact page to discuss coaching access.

Try it before committing

Run the free analysis on your own games or a student's games to see the output format. The example report below is a real output from a real game history so you can judge whether the analysis quality fits your coaching workflow.

"It shocked me at first to see what even your website showed, some of it I immediately realised as having been areas to improve on from my intuition of what's lacking but most of these are seriously incisive insights past what players like myself can recognise."
